Commenting on this, Andrew said: “Let me be very clear. The Labour Government’s decision to scrap the Winter Fuel Allowance for millions of pensioners is an absolute disgrace, which is why I voted to retain the Allowance. I firmly believe that if you have worked hard all your life and paid into the system, then it is only fair that you are afforded dignity and respect in your retirement.
Sadly, Labour MPs disagreed and voted against our motion to save the Winter Fuel Allowance, meaning that it will, very sadly, be scrapped this Winter.
This decision means that unless you are in receipt of pension credit or other means-tested benefits, you will no longer receive the annual Winter Fuel Payments, representing losses of up to £300 for around 10 million pensioners across the UK, including thousands here in Fylde.
I am extremely concerned that the Government will continue to target pensioner benefits to cover the cost of increasing public sector wage demands from their Union allies. What will they look at scrapping next? The Triple Lock, bus passes, TV licenses, prescriptions?”
