Andrew has stepped up his campaign against proposals that would see a vast cable corridor, wider than the M55 motorway, cut through Fylde’s countryside as part of the Morgan and Morecambe Offshore Wind Energy project.
Fylde’s MP has formally urged The Rt. Hon. Ed Miliband MP, Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, to reconsider current proposals, which threaten to disrupt communities across Fylde.
“These plans are nothing short of devastating,” said Andrew Snowden. “The construction of a massive cable corridor and two towering substations in Kirkham and Newton will rip apart our local landscape, force businesses in agriculture and tourism to shut their doors, and wipe tens of thousands of pounds off the value of homes. Residents are also rightly worried, which is why I’m urging Ed Miliband to come here to Lancashire and see the potential damage for himself.”
Backing Snowden’s call, Leader of Fylde Council Karen Buckley highlighted the grave concerns among local residents.
“While residents are broadly supportive of the offshore wind farm, our concerns relate to the cabling route which would bulldoze through Fylde’s communities. The current proposals would have a catastrophic impact on our landscape and way of life,” Cllr Karen Buckley stated. “I urge the Secretary of State to visit and see for himself what these plans mean for the people who live here. Only by speaking with those affected can the right, balanced decision be made.”
Snowden reinforced his invitation for Miliband to visit the Fylde coast and meet with concerned residents, emphasising that community voices must be heard and considered.
As pressure mounts, the question remains: will Ed Miliband accept the invitation and witness first-hand the potential consequences of these proposals?
