Andrew Snowden, MP for Fylde, has blasted the Labour Government for scrapping the Rwanda plan, accusing them of rolling out the red carpet for illegal crossings in the English Channel.
After speaking in a recent Parliamentary debate Andrew said, “The previous Conservative government had a clear, effective plan. The Rwanda scheme was already a deterrent and was reducing numbers, despite the protests from left-wing lawyers and immigration groups. But as soon as Labour took power, they scrapped it. Now, we’re seeing the consequences—illegal crossings are soaring.”
He added, “It’s not enough to make vague promises about stopping illegal crossings. We need real action and measurable results. Labour’s failure to act is costing the British people, and communities like Fylde are paying the price.”
Andrew pressed ministers for clarity on what reduction in illegal crossings would be considered a success, calling for specific targets and real accountability.
“Our borders are being exploited, and the public is fed up with empty words and political games. We need clear targets to show that Labour are serious about stopping this crisis. Without these targets we risk failing to protect our communities and our borders,” he said.
“The Government’s response so far has been weak and lacking direction. I’ll keep pushing until we see action that actually works.”
